Ever wished that casino chips were real, edible chips? Or that the roulette wheel was actually a roulade wheel? Well, here are some rather tasty casino culinary delights to tickle your taste buds. Why not try your hand at making some and show us the results?

POKER CHIP CHIPS

For this little casino snack you are going to need a steady hand or a cookie cutter, to get that perfectly round shape. Peel your chosen potatoes and cut them into manageable chunks, before attempting to create the circular shape of a poker chip. You want them to be no thicker than an inch, or they won’t crisp up nicely when cooked.

Now, we need to color them. Many poker chips come in a whole array of different colors, so you have free reign over which ones you would like. You can opt for all one color, or have several different shades for various amounts. Add each potato slice into a plastic bowl full of your chosen food coloring, and a few spoonfuls of sugar, and leave them in the fridge for around 20-30 minutes.

Once the potatoes have turned the right color, it’s time to fry them! Heat up a pan full of vegetable oil, unless you have a fryer, and once it reaches boiling drop the chips in. It should take no longer than 15 minutes for the chips to crisp up, but keep an eye in case they cook quicker. You may find the colors fade slightly, but that’s not a problem if you left them to soak for long enough!

If you want to make them even more like poker chips, use icing pens or other sweet treats to add the finishing touches!

PLAYING CARD SANDWICHES
If all of the above sounded like a bit too much hard work, then you might prefer something a bit more simple. Playing card sandwiches are easy to make, and look absolutely fantastic. The best thing about these, is you can have any filling you like! Great if you have fussy eaters coming round for your casino culinary delights.

All you need to do is make your sandwiches as you normally would, then chose some toppings for the decoration. If you’re making sweet sandwiches then you can easily use icing sugar, jelly, candy or marshmallows for the topping. Those planning more savory snacks can use red peppers or tomatoes (for hearts and diamonds), aubergine or even caviar if you’re feeling flush (for clubs and spades). Simply cut your chosen topping into the desired shape, or mold onto the bread if easier and voila! A great looking, and tasting, casino culinary treat without too much effort.

For an even quicker playing card sandwich, just invest in some cookie cutters shaped as diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades!
