The temperatures in North America are turning cold.  That means that it’s getting close to the time to escape northern winters for a few days and head out to the wonderful and warm Caribbean islands.  Here at Jackpot Capital, we will take an impartial look at some of the islands but first, we are going to visit the three Caribbean Poker variations.

Caribbean Poker is The Babe of Poker Games

The game was developed as Caribbean Stud Poker in about 1982, which is a little more than a decade before the first online casino came about.  That’s ironic since it is actually more popular online than at land-based casinos, where the table takes up a lot of space away from slots.

Caribbean Poker is the Perfect Game for Mobile Casinos

When you have enough time for a few online casino games on your mobile device, slots might be too fast and too pat.  Caribbean Poker is also a fast game, but it requires some thinking as well.  Most gamers play it less often than other online casino games, so it perfectly fits a short window for gaming.

On the other hand, Caribbean Poker is a great game for romantic gaming on the sofa or in bed with that special someone.  It allows you to imagine being in the Caribbean even as a blizzard is raging outside!  We will imagine together being in the Caribbean soon!

Who Developed Caribbean Stud Poker?

That is a great question since the only thing that everyone agrees on is that the game was developed in Aruba.  The creator is somewhat in dispute.  Some people claim that David Sklansky, a professional poker player, created the game.

Other people say that the casino owner in Aruba, James Suttle, developed the game in order to have a different kind of poker variation that would appeal to vacationers.  Whoever invented Caribbean Poker certainly knew a good thing when he saw it, because it has become a very popular poker variation, especially for people who do not like to have to deal with bluffs, which is the norm in regular poker.

Now There Are Three Variations of Caribbean Poker

Caribbean Stud was soon joined by Caribbean Hold’em and Caribbean Draw.  Gamers love all three Caribbean Poker variations.  They are different in some ways and share the same elements in other ways.

First of all, in all three variations, the dealer has to ‘qualify” for either you or the dealer to win the call bet.  In each variation, gamers place an ante bet and, then, if they decide to continue, place a call bet that is twice the ante bet.

Who Wins?

There are four possibilities in all three Caribbean Poker variations.

  1. If the gamer chooses not to continue, the house wins the ante bet.
  2. If the gamer places the call bet and the dealer does not qualify, the gamer wins the ante bet, and the call bet is a push.
  3. If the player places the call bet and the dealer does qualify, the dealer wins if he has the better hand.
  4. Similarly, in the above possibility, the player wins if she has the better hand.

There is Also a Progressive Jackpot

In order to win the progressive jackpot, you have to make a side bet.  This jackpot is shared by all three variations.  You can win a portion of the jackpot with a ”lesser” hand, such as four of a kind, a straight flush, a full house, or a flush.  You need to get a Royal Flush in order to win the full jackpot.

There is No Bluffing in Caribbean Poker

At a land-based casino with a Caribbean Poker table, players play only against the house, not against each other.  At Jackpot Capital, you play just against the house.  In this sense, it is similar to video poker.  It shares video poker’s popularity as well.

How Does the Dealer Qualify?

In Caribbean Stud, the dealer needs at least an Ace-king hand.  In Caribbean Hold’em, the qualifying hand is a pair of fours.  In Caribbean Draw, the qualifying hand is a pair of eights.

Caribbean Poker, there is a Graduated Pay Chart

This is similar to what happens in video poker.  Here is the pay chart for Caribbean Poker.  It is based on payout per ante bet.

  1. Royal Flush: 100-1
  2. Straight Flush; 50-1
  3. Four of a kind: 20-1
  4. Full House: 7-1
  5. Flush: 5-1
  6. Straight: 4-1
  7. Three of a kind: 3-1
  8. Two pair: 2-1
  9. One pair or less: 1-1

What is the Best Strategy in Caribbean Poker?

Believe it or not, nobody knows!  The most accepted strategies are to call with at least an ace-king in Caribbean Stud, to always call in Caribbean Draw, and to call with all but the very worst hands in Caribbean Hold’em.

Most players call a lot more often in Caribbean Stud.  Some players never fold in any of the variations.  The key element to always keep in mind is that the call bet is double the ante bet.  So, you have to be very careful about money management at the ante bet level when you play Caribbean Poker.

How to Organize a Caribbean Vacation

There are two ways to get to the Caribbean: flying in or on a cruise.  A lot of people choose to cruise for the fun of the cruise. When you cruise, the Caribbean islands you arrive at are already in the itinerary.  So, if you want to make all of your vacation decisions, you have to fly in and then you have to decide where to fly into.

Language is Not a Barrier

English is the official language or one of the official languages in most Caribbean countries.  Spanish and French are the official languages in a couple of islands, but people speak good English in all tourist areas.  So, language should not be a barrier.

Mountains and Beaches

Most of the islands in the Caribbean are volcanic in origin.  That means that they have beaches and mountains.  Travelers find the experience in the mountains to be especially satisfying since they are not cold by northern winter standards and are a refreshing interlude between days at the beach.

Culture

Every Caribbean island has its own rich culture.  You can take organized trips to historical sites or wander around the old city in any island capital.  Every big island city has an outdoor market where you can buy handmade goods.  Hand-sewn tablecloths are a big seller, but there are a lot of other hand-made goods to choose from.

Music and food are also cultural icons of every island.  You will find dishes that use ingredients that you would never think of combining at home.  At night, the islands come alive with local music.  Reggae might be the most famous Caribbean type of music, but it is not the only local kind of music.

Underwater Caribbean

Wherever you end up in the Caribbean, you should snorkel or deep-sea dive to see the amazing world under the water in the Caribbean.
