This week, head East, to Monte Carlo of the Orient! Step inside the City of Dreams Resort & Casino - possibly the best gambling experience in all of Macau!

When we speak of gambling destinations, we usually tend to talk about Las Vegas or Atlantic City, however, a serious casino haven also exists in the East. Dubbed the Monte Carlo of the Orient, Macau is a special administrative region of China, (much like Hong Kong) and the only place in the Middle Kingdom where casinos are legal. Gambling tourism is Macau's biggest source of revenue, making up roughly half of their economy, thanks to approximately 40 casinos. This month on our Las Vegas Lifestyle blog, we’ll take you on a trip around the City of Dreams Resort & Casino. Located on the famous Cotai Strip, next to the the Wynn, the Sands and the Venetian casinos, this may just be the loudest, brightest and boldest option in all of Macau, offering a 24 hour gambling experience. This March, join us on a trip to the far East... You won’t regret it!

This is What Dreams Are Made Of

Until Western-style casino games were introduced to Macau in the 20th century, only Chinese games were played here. After large foreign casinos from America and Australia, entered its market, the tiny island overtook the Las Vegas Strip in gambling revenues in 2007, and has remained ahead ever since. Take one look at the City of Dreams Resort & Casino and you’ll quickly understand how this is possible. The building is composed of four towers, which house the Hard Rock Hotel, the Crown Towers Hotel, and the Grand Hyatt Macau, which occupies 2 towers. These exclusive hotels share a mega casino, spanning over 420,000 square feet, spread out across two floors.

You can choose where you play between the main City of Dreams Casino, the Hard Rock Hotel Gaming Area with nearly 200 slots, or opt for private gaming at the Signature Club, which is accessed through the lobby of the Grand Hyatt. The impressive gaming space offers over 500 gaming tables and 750 machines, in total, where you will be able to enjoy Baccarat, Blackjack, Roulette, Caribbean Stud Poker, Fortune 3 Card Poker, and Texas Hold’em Poker, among many, many more.

The main casino on Level 1 provides over 240 gaming tables with an extensive range of popular games. Bets range from HK$50 on the main gaming floor to serious multi-million dollar wagers, available to high rollers in one of the swanky VIP rooms. The casino houses an unsurpassed variety of gaming machines in Macau and guests can bet as little as HK$0.05 per game, all the way up to HK$8,000. You can choose from a wide variety of game themes and progressive jackpots, depending on what you like. There is something for everyone to enjoy here, from traditional favorites to the hottest, latest hits in modern gaming.

Much like the company’s restaurants, the Hard Rock Hotel Gaming Area, on the second floor is packed with rock 'n' roll memorabilia and decorations from some of the greatest musicians of all time, as well as 193 slot machines. The crowd here tends to be young, chic and generally glamourous. Meanwhile, the Signature Club offers an exclusive gaming experience, available only to very highly rated players. Members can expect privacy, exceptional service and attention, whether they choose to play at the private table games or use the slot machines. Poker players should also take note that the world renown online poker room, PokerStars runs a venue here, which has been (very originally) dubbed: PokerStars LIVE Macau. This is one of the busiest poker rooms in all of Macau, which is regularly visited by Poker Tournaments like the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.

City of Dreams

Make the Most of Macau

The three separate hotels at the City of Dreams Resort & Casino, total about 1,500 rooms. In late 2016, Melco Crown Entertainment, which manages the estate, announced their plans to build a fifth hotel within the City of Dreams. Named Morpheus, the project is set to finish in 2018 and is expected to add 780 more rooms to the property. While many guests come to gamble, the impressive casino is far from being the only form of entertainment available here. The property includes 175,000 square feet of retail space called The Boulevard, which, like the casino, is spread across two levels and sells high-end cosmetics, watches, jewelry and clothes. You can head here after your first big win! The retail area also includes several art installations, such as the Bubble Fountain and the Vquarium, a virtual aquarium, both of which aim to enhance the shopping environment.

The theme of water is a clear constant at the City of Dreams Resort & Casino, which also houses the Dancing Water Theatre, a 270-degree theatre in the round, which contains one of the largest commercial pools in the world. Surrounded by sloped seating on three sides, fitting as many as 2,000 guests, the arena regularly shows The House of Dancing Water, a water-based stage production, written and directed by Franco Dragone, which premiered in September 2010. The outstanding live show features an astounding display of acrobatics, which is sure to entertain the entire family.

Between all the shopping and gaming at the City of Dreams Resort & Casino, you’re bound to get a little hungry, but these guys have got you covered. Head on over to SOHO, an upscale food court, where you can find 3 Asian restaurants, the Hard Rock Cafe, 2 International restaurants, as well as bars and cafes, including a Häagen Dazs ice cream parlor. Yum! Night time at Soho brings together all the colourful facets of city alive, delivering innovative entertainment couples with an amazing dining experience.

If you’re looking for a moment of relaxation after a few stressful bets, head over to one of the 3 SPA centers at the City of Dreams for a blissful treatment or a taste of Traditional Chinese medicine. If that sounds a little too chill, try checking out Club Cubic instead, Macau’s largest and most prestigious club. Set to redefine your nightlife experience, the club features lavish decor and an diverse selection of internationally acclaimed DJs and musicians.
