No Turkey At First…

People from all over the globe, even those who do not celebrate Thanksgiving, today know that Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated with family and/or close friends, a holiday in which we say thanks for the great things in our lives and reflect on others; of course, the fact that there’s a dinner, complete with a turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and of course, pumpkin pie. But as with almost every other popular holiday created many centuries ago, time has had its influence over the customs of Thanksgiving too, so that many things we know about the holiday today weren’t there in its beginning. Ready to read about some of them?

We weren’t joking when we told you that there was no Turkey at the very first Thanksgiving.  Historians today say that instead, the people at the first Thanksgiving dinner ate fish, eels, venison, geese and lobster. They did eat pumpkins, though, apparently, as well as cranberries, just not as pie or sauce. Too bad, really, they not only missed out on Jackpot Capital’s Thanksgiving Bonuses, but on pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce too!

Though this might not surprise you given the time it happened, another element that wasn’t present at the first Thanksgiving was the fork. Spoons and knives? They were there! But did you know that tonight, at our Thanksgiving Bonus Dinner, in addition to forks, knives and spoons, we’ll have a special piece of cutlery just for our Bonus treats?

If this got you wondering about that 1st Thanksgiving, here are a few more facts: it took place in 1621, in modern-day Massachusetts; it involved around 50 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag Indians and had lasted for as long as 3 days! But it wasn’t until 1863 that Thanksgiving became a national holiday, for which, interestingly, people thank Sarah Josepha Hale, the composer of “Mary Had A Little Lamb”. She had written letters continuously to five different US presidents over a period of 17 years, asking for Thanksgiving to become a national holiday! It is believed that her letter to Abraham Lincoln is what actually convinced him to accept the legislation, and for that, people today refer to her as the “Mother of Thanksgiving.

You now have all the Thanksgiving fun facts you need, in case you’d like to impress people at dinner tonight. If you want to get a head start on, well, getting ahead, keep reading and find out how you can collect our Thanksgiving Feast of Free Spins<link>!
